These pictures of bicycles are part of a body of work that began in 1996 when I embraced cycling for transportation in NYC. I work from observation. Me in the studio, looking at the bike, recording what I see and the time spent musing. While these are real bikes that people assembled and use, they represent more than that specific bike, or a mode of transportation—they embody independence, freedom, sustainability and endless possibilities as self-propelled vehicles. These works, ranging from paintings to handmade prints, serve as a visual celebration and documentation of bicycles, cycling and my community.
